The best reward for our work is the success we help create for our partners, and the best recognition comes when someone chooses to make our work a part of their life.
We have observed that design contests are often juried out of context – products are submitted before there is any evidence of success, and judged based on factors that may be irrelevant to the objectives and needs of the creators, makers, or end users. We’ve had the experience of being on both the good and not so good sides of this process: as award winners, as judges, and as judged but not awarded. Some of our best and most successful work has been passed over, and some of our less successful work has been recognized by peers and press for excellence.
It’s always more fun to be a winner, of course, but we don’t take these things too seriously, and we rarely enter contests. After all, success really is it’s own reward.
