In 1954 Burt Baker purchased Sarasota Redwood Furniture Company. Based upon his experience as an engineer with Lockheed Aircraft, Mr. Baker integrated aluminum alloy for the frames of his outdoor furniture.
With the introduction of the new aluminum designs the company was renamed Tropitone and focused on serving the growing market for outdoor furniture at hotels, clubs and resorts. Success on commercial properties led to expansion into the residential market, and construction of a second factory in California.
Today, Tropitone is recognized throughout the world for design leadership and a commitment to durability, value and superior customer service.
